A warm and imaginative family in Suffolk is gaining the additional space needed to grow, live and work from home with greater comfort and flexibility.
The design introduces two modest, carefully positioned extensions that operate like spatial “pressure valves,” releasing the strain on the existing plan. Rather than adding large volumes, these smaller interventions strategically address key bottlenecks within the house. By relocating functions that previously competed for space—such as dining, circulation, storage or work areas—the extensions free up the original rooms to perform more comfortably and efficiently. As a result, the existing interior feels larger, calmer and easier to inhabit, without relying on excessive new build.
Both additions draw in generous natural light, ease movement between spaces and open up improved connections to the garden. This not only creates brighter, more adaptable places for daily use, but also allows the home to “breathe,” with each room able to serve its purpose without overcrowding or compromise.
Considered rather than expansive, the extensions demonstrate how small, strategic architecture can transform the lived experience of a home. The project is now on site, following Full Plans Building Regulations Approval.
